Bernese mountain dog
A large working class dog that is named after the Bern region in Switzerland. This is not were they originated, but were rather imported by the Roman Empire during the era of Caesar and bred there further.
Bernese mountain dogs have a thick medium-long shiny coat that can be straight or wavy. The predominant color of a pure bred Bernese mountain dog is black. But it must also have red-brown markings on it's chest and legs, as well as above it's eyes. White markings on those areas and on the end of the tail or feet are acceptable for a pure breed Bernese Mountain dog.
Nature: These swiss mountain dogs are known to make loving and dedicated house pets that are od with children and are very playful and full of energy. So if you're thinking of owning a Bernese mountain dog, be prepared to take frequent walks and brush the dog regularly.
Misinformation: Typical misspellings are Bernise, Bermese and Burmese mountain dogs. Beware of websites that post false information, either by error or as a hoax, about the fictional Bermese breed. There is no Burmese or Bermese moutain dog breed. Bernese Mountain dogs do not originate from Burma, a country in southeast Asia, as is sometimes stated.
